I Read: The Rural Diaries: Love, Livestock, and Big Life Lessons on Mischief Farms

The Rural Diaries: Love, Livestock, and Big Life Lessons on Mischief Farms by Hilarie Burton Morgan

If you know me well, you're not surprised that I had to read this one. I watched One Tree Hill from start to finish, and then found out that "Peyton" was practically (and then officially) married to "John Winchester" from Supernatural.  Instant fascination with them as a couple.

Hilarie Burton as Peyton was never my favourite on OTH, but there was always something about her that I respected. Having read this book now, that respect is heightened.

She writes as if she's having a conversation with the reader. She causes, and she's honest and it's endearing and captivating and makes you want to know more. Seriously, admiration full-blown from here.  Through the pandemic, she and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (the aforementioned husband) have had a TV show called "Friday Night in with the Morgans" which increased my interest in the way they've used their lives and created their own shine on fame. It's really just normal. Which is the best kind of fame to have where you can live the kind of life that you want without justifying it to anyone.

She talks about the struggles, and hardships they've faced, including issues on the OTH set that make me sad because it takes so much of the shine off the show. But no one issue is the basis of the book. It's really just about living the best way you know how to, and figuring out how to get the best out of everything that comes along. Doing your best for yourself and those you love.

It's powerful and poignant if you're in the right mind to read it. It's especially so when you're already somehow connected to the people you're reading about (as tenuous as that connection may really be.)

I gave it five stars on Goodreads (and Hilarie Burton Morgan liked my tweet about it 💗) so it's five stars again here. If you have any interest in the life of Hilarie Burton Morgan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan or the journey to Mischief Farms, read it. It's worth it.
