Read: I am Definitely, Probably Enough (I Think) (#53-2022)

I am Definitely, Probably Enough (I think)

I am Definitely, Probably Enough (I Think): Revelations on the Journey to Self-Love by Tori Press

This is just such a cute, needed way to remind myself that I'm actually okay. And enough. It's well thought out, using the phrases and words that are most poignant for someone who is questioning themself and their enough-ness at any given moment.

And the best part is that it didn't take a lot of effort to read it. It's simple and does exactly what it needs to do in very few words.

Daring Greatly
Daring Greatly by Brene Brown

As a shame researcher, Brene Brown takes an interesting perspective to teach us how to live our best selves. In Daring Greatly, she encourages us to embrace our vulnerability and imperfection, to live wholeheartedly, and to courageously engage in our lives. Every moment where we choose to experience uncertainty, risk and emotional exposure gives us the chance to dare greatly in our life.

I Read: Some Things I Still Can't Tell You

Some Things I Still Can't Tell You
Some Things I Still Can't Tell You by Misha Collins

Poetry has never really been my thing. I enjoy what I read, but it's not something I choose when given a choice.

But this is written by Misha Collins and given what I've seen of his personality through social media (and Supernatural fan event videos online) I knew this would be worth the read.

There's a lot of emotion packed in this little book. Happy, sad, disappointed. It's all here, and in as few words as possible, Collins manages to flip between them all. There's the wit and humour that I expected as well but it's tempered by some real and relatable sentiments.

So glad I picked this up.

I Read: The Empath Experience

The Empath ExperienceThe Empath Experience: What to do When you Feel Everything by Sydney Campos

This book had great moments. But the author was very focused on her own experiences and seemed intent on fitting everyone else into the mould that she followed. Not all empaths are outgoing people naturally. Not all empaths self-soothe with alcohol or drugs.

I guess I was overall disappointed that it wasn't very inclusive. The author made a lot of effort to repeatedly say that there were different things that you could identify with as an empath but didn't allow that you might identity outside of the things she herself had experienced.

I Read: All About Love

All About Love
 by bell hooks

This is another of the books from Trevor Noah's recommendations on Goodreads. I don't know what I was expecting from it, but what it is was not it. That's not a negative, I found it very interesting, but it was not what I was expecting.

I feel like I picked up a lot of random nuggets that I can use throughout life. I'd never thought to consider love and why people can't express it, or feel like we don't have it. This read a lot like a journal I would have studied when I was taking psychology at University. A thorough examination of the origin of the feelings of love. Why we can't feel it, why we don't try. That kind of thing.

I'd recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about their own emotional journey. There's a lot to digest in it. The text makes a lot of assumptions about the person choosing to read, but not in a way that turns the reader away. The points are relatable, no matter who you are or what you come from.

If you're into self-study. Pick it up. (No stars on this one - I might drop that system to a simple note of whether I'd recommend it or not. Or who I'd recommend it to. Some books just don't fit into a rating scale.)
