Read: Here We Go Again (#07-2022)

Here We Go Again: My Life in Television, 1949-1995

Here We Go Again: My Life in Television, 1949-1995 by Betty White

This is the second biographical book written by the legendary Betty White. It is not the second book written by Betty though - I don't even want to count how many books she was involved in. This one follows her career in show business, from early years up until the original publishing of the book. This version has an updated introduction and conclusion from 2010 that brings it closer to the current day.

I started reading this on what would have been Betty White's 100th birthday. It seemed like the most fitting way to celebrate the day. The world lost a lot with Betty's passing, and this book just brought that point even clearer. She writes the book as if she's sitting down on a comfy couch to tell you the stories, and even has the interjections that make it conversational. It's so personable and friendly that you just want to continue the stories.

It almost seems as if Betty White had a connection to everyone in Hollywood during a certain period of time. It would seem obnoxious, the name dropping, if it wasn't done in such a casual way. The names are given to show what a big deal an event is, not to make her seem important. But also to highlight how amazing even she knows her life and career have been.  She doesn't emphasize how much work she puts in to be who she is, but it's clear from reading that she's earned it all.

I didn't think I could be more impressed with the career and life of Betty White but I am. I'm sad for the generations to come who won't know what a bright light she was. They'll only have the reruns of Golden Girls and Mary Tyler Moore and Hot in Cleveland to get a glimpse.
