I read: Attachments

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

I love the way Rowell writes stories so casually. They're very intricately designed, with a hint of something here and there, but they always feel very simple, and casual in their flow and approach. It's as if you're actually getting to know a real person in the way that you might actually get to know a real person - slowly, in little bits and pieces.

There's something about the way Rowell creates her characters, that makes you feel for even the most ridiculously over-the-top ones. They all seem very real, and have the same issues that real people have. They're not just characters, living on the page, they seem to be real, breathing people. It's almost as if she writes based on people she knows, and never exaggerates or expands on what she knows would be realistic.

I love reading that because I can picture myself in the story, watching the events unfold and knowing how things could potentially play out in the end. And there's almost always just a little surprise to the ending, even though you know it won't be a particularly sad ending after all is said and done. But it just won't be quite perfect either. Because life isn't perfect. And that's what makes Rowell's books so fantastic.

Five stars from me because I could read this again and not feel any less happy with the story, even knowing how it will end.
