Read: Shakespeare's Christmas (#25-2022)

Shakespeare's Christmas

Shakespeare's Christmas by Charlaine Harris

(Book 3 in the Lily Bard Mysteries)

Lily Bard is headed back to her hometown for the wedding of her sister, Varena. Staying with her parents, she deals with her own issues with being in her childhood home, and of course, there's a mystery to solve.

I'm still struggling with connecting with our heroine.  She has a past, but that should be something that draws us to her.  Instead, I find myself confused by her, regularly. There are gaps in the story that the reader shouldn't have to deal with unless it's related to a plot point that we haven't uncovered yet.  In this story, we're constantly having to figure out why Lily reacts the way she does. There's nothing particularly logical about it, and it's only easy to blame "trauma" for so long. This is a character - things should be easier than with a real person.

The story is cute, and I enjoy piecing together the mystery but it's good that the series is short.
