Read: The Betrayal of Anne Frank (#19-2022)

The Betrayal of Anne Frank: A Cold Case Investigation by Rosemary Sullivan

An assembled Cold Case Team takes an in-depth look at who may have betrayed the group hidden in what has become known as the Secret Annex. There have been innumerable theories over the years; the team recreates each scenario and dissects them in order to find the most logical possibility and maybe even come to a real, solid conclusion.

I have to admit that I never really took a lot of time to think about who gave the Frank family up. It didn't seem surprising that eventually someone did, and it would have even surprised me if eventually, someone had just made the wrong step that brought their situation to the wrong person's attention.

Despite being (at least one of) the most famous of the Holocaust stories, in reality, there were so many that I just assumed this is sort of how many others went as well.  There was always someone to tell on someone else. From the background in this book though, I came to realize that Otto Frank did a phenomenal job of selecting those who he trusted to help his family through the situation. They lasted an amazingly long time in hiding and it's incredibly unfortunate they were found when they were.

Considering that nearly everyone involved has passed away by now, it's unlikely that anyone will ever discover what really happened, but this book definitely makes a good effort at confirming what we may never know.
