I Read: The Life She Had (#55-2022)

The Life She Had

The Life She Had by K.L. Armstrong

Celeste has moved to rural Florida, to nurse her ailing grandmother and now to accept the inheritance left from said grandmother.  But now, there is a woman living in Celeste's shed who should definitely not be there.

When she meets the woman, Celeste is surprised to learn that Daisy is personable and helpful. They begin an awkward and beneficial friendship, for both of them. But clearly, both of them have secrets. And it might be the death of both of them.

I loved this story. Of course, favourite author so that helps, and she kept up her trend of writing amazingly complex characters without giving us info-dump or too much information that ruins the plot.

This is a stand-alone novel, which is nice when I'm living in a sea of trilogies and lengthy series, but it was as engaging as any series I've read recently.  I read it quickly, wanting to get through to the end to find out how all the twists and secrets revealed themselves.

Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a good, quick mystery with an ending you may see coming, but you can't possibly fully expect.
